Sankat Mochan Hanuman Mandir, Uttar Pradesh
It is said that the Sankat Mochan temple was built at the place where the famous poet Tulsidas had a vision of Hanuman. The present temple structure was constructed in the early 1900s by the freedom fighter Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, the founder of Banaras Hindu University.
The word Sankat Mochan means deliverer from troubles. According to Vedic astrology, Hanuman ji protects human beings from the wrath of the planet Shani and people who have Shani in the wrong place in their horoscope, especially visit this temple for astrological remedies. Some astrologers believe that worshiping Hanuman can neutralize the ill effects of Mars and practically any planet that has a harmful effect on human life.
The idea of building this sacred Hanuman temple was mooted by the famous religious figure-Baba Neem Karauli or Neeb Karauri Maharaj, who visited the site. He stayed in a hut for 10 days and was so impressed with the place that he decided to build a Hindu temple there. People apply vermilion on the idol and offer laddus to Lord Hanuman.
