Shani Shingnapur, Maharashtra

Shani Dev is the son of Sun God and Goddess Chhaya, hence he is also known as Surya-Putra, and Chhayaputra. According to Hinduism, he is the elder brother of Yama, the Hindu god of death, who in some scriptures corresponds to the god of justice and death. The son of Sun, Shani, judges every living being and while living gives the fruits of actions in this life, Yama gives the results of actions after death.
It is said that when Shani Dev opened his eyes for the first time, there was a solar eclipse. It shows their influence on the astrological chart. It is believed that Shani Dev, like a magistrate (judge), is a teacher and well-wisher for the righteous or those who do good deeds, but also a punisher for those who stray from the path or do bad deeds. Shanidev is depicted as a dark complexion, dressed in black; He has a trident, bow, arrows in one hand and vermillion in one hand. The vehicle of Shani Dev is a crow.
The Shani Shingnapur temple has no roof, doors, or walls around it, the deity Shani resides in the form of a self-styled black stone idol and is seated on a marble platform. His trident is placed on the side of the idol and Nandi's idol is facing south. There are small images of Shiva and Hanuman in front of the stage.
Male visitors are allowed to climb the platform on which the idol is. Women can enter the temple premises but cannot climb on the platform. The planet Shani is worshiped here.
